25 years ago or so, I know this old WWII Navy vet. He absolutely hated the French Navy. He said that in battle if you came up on the Japanese or the Germans, you knew what would happen. You would fight. But if the French were there, you never knew if they would help or just float there and watch the battle. I hope it's not still the case.

It definitely wouldn't be that way now. France during WWII is a little complicated. They sort of fought on both sides at various points.
